You can’t avoid sport when you visit Manchester. The fierce rivalry between the red United and the blue City sides unites, divides and defines this northwestern destination, all at the same time. Catch a game while you’re there – if you’re really lucky it’ll be a derby day.
There’s lots to see and do apart from football and night clubs. Plenty of posh shops like Harvey Nichols and Chanel mix it up with the usual High Street outlets. Historic and modern sights are everywhere. Try the John Rylands Library on Deansgate Street for an absolutely beautiful treat, and don’t expect to be able to cram it all in within a day or even two. The city has more than its share of galleries and museums. Did you know that the Museum of Science and Industry was also the world’s first train station? Nor did we. That’s why we’re packing our bags to check Manchester out again!
